The European Union and Algeria held on Monday in Brussels the 11th session of their Association Council, co-chaired by the High Representative / Vice-President Federica Mogherini, and the Algerian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abdelkader Messahel.

On that occasion, the two parties renewed their commitment to the implementation of the Common Partnership Priorities and to the conclusions of the joint evaluation of the Association Agreement (AA). They committed to strengthen their cooperation, in particular in terms of diversification of the Algerian economy. In this framework, a financing agreement for the Agricultural Sector Support Program, including water management, agribusiness and agricultural pollution has been signed. This inter-sectoral program reinforces certain strategic sectors for food security in Algeria and those with real potential for export.

“The European Union remains committed to supporting the political and economic reforms undertaken by the Algerian authorities,” said Ms. Mogherini, who wished to reaffirm the EU’s willingness “to accompany the reform agenda and regional government commitment that the Algerian government is implementing.”
