TunisiaThe EU-funded “Generation What?” program reveals similarities between young people from Europe and the Southern and Eastern Mediterranean region
“Generation What?” is an interactive multi-media program drawing the portrait of the current generation of 18-35-year-old in Europe as well as in eight Southern and Eastern Mediterranean countries: Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Palestine and Tunisia.
Through a unique survey, some ten thousand young people described their living conditions, voiced their opinions on society, and discussed their aspirations and their fears relating to a wide range of subjects.
One of the results of the survey highlights that the fears and preoccupations experienced by both European and Arabic respondents are very similar.
Both mention as their most common fears their future, the loss of a parent, being lonely, being poor and the war. Moreover, when it comes to their most common worries about society, they are both concerned about the same issues: the educational system, access to employment, the economic crisis as well as the healthcare system.
