The European Union (EU), in collaboration with Jordanian authorities, has officially handed over the Integrated Border Management Training Centre (IBM TC) in Aqaba to the relevant Jordanian agencies during a formal ceremony on Wednesday, 19 February 2025. Implemented by the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD) under the EU Support to Integrated Border Management in Jordan project, the Centre will serve as a dedicated training hub to enhance border management capabilities, strengthen inter-agency coordination, and improve operational effectiveness. The EU-funded initiative aims to improve institutional capacities and ensure border agencies are equipped with the necessary expertise to respond to evolving security and migration challenges.
Located within the Jordan Customs Employee Building, the IBM TC will provide structured training in border security, risk analysis, and operational coordination, fostering both intra-agency and inter-agency cooperation. The facility is designed to contribute to a more efficient and coordinated border management approach, reinforcing Jordan’s ability to manage its borders effectively. With a total investment of €507,000, the Centre has been fully refurbished and equipped, featuring two modern training rooms, an 80-seat theatre, trainers’ offices, accommodation facilities, and a secure server room. Renovation works included structural upgrades, IT and security system enhancements, and the provision of essential training equipment. The refurbished theatre will also be available for IBM TC training sessions and Jordan Customs operations.
