The EU-funded Majalat initiative has issued a call for proposals which aims at strengthening identified priorities in 5 given themes and enhancing in-country dialogue among different stakeholders. This call for proposals will end up selecting five proposals (one for each theme). The deadline to submit the forms will be 10 March 2020.

The national projects will have to cover five key themes for the EU and Southern Neighbourhood countries’ relationship, namely governance and the rule of law, security and fighting against violence, migrations, economic and social dialogue, and social and climate justice. The countries concerned are Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Palestine, Morocco, Syria and Tunisia. Projects enhancing youth participation will be favoured, as well as projects implemented by Egyptian, Syrian or Libyan organisations (if necessary outside the country).

The outcomes of the awarded projects will be discussed at the Civil Society South Seminar on 7-8 July 2020 in Beirut and the awarded organisations will be invited to present them. Finally, these discussions will be included in the structured political dialogues with the European Union in the Brussels Civil Society Forum on 24-25 November 2020.

“Majalat” is a regional initiative supported and financed by the European Commission. This unique initiative led by civil society organisations from the North and South of the Mediterranean aims to build a continuous exchange between the EU and Civil Society from ten countries from the South of the Mediterranean in continuity with previous EU structured dialogues. Each year, through an annual cycle of activities, civil society organisations will gather to discuss and exchange on 5 themes that are central for the relations between the EU and countries in the region (Governance and Rule of Law, security and countering violence, migration, economic and social dialogue, social and climate justice). The results of these discussions will be brought from the field into structured (policy) dialogues with the European Union.
