EU-funded PPRD South 3 has organised an online technical meeting on contingency planning dedicated to the pillars of civil protection planning. The objective was to present the main pillars of inter-institutional contingency planning as well as multi-level contingency planning to the project’s National Focal Points and other stakeholders.

Examples of Italian disasters were presented by the Italian Civil Protection Directorate, including the sinking of the cruise ship Costa Concordia near an island and the eruption of volcanoes.

Pillars of planning include developing a plan, early warning systems, checking the plan and informing the population. All these steps were discussed with the participants.

The overall objective of EU-funded PPRD South 3 is to contribute to increasing resilience and reducing the social, economic and environmental costs of natural and man-made disasters in the ENP South region, based on the results of the PPRD South Program and the European Union Civil Protection Mechanism (UCPM).
