This year, in the context of the EU-financed SwitchMed initiative, the Regional Activity Centre for Sustainable Consumption and Production (SCP/RAC) will undertake a comprehensive assessment of the policy framework in the Mediterranean to identify potential barriers that may be limiting opportunities for green and circular economy businesses. The ultimate aim of the assessment is to reveal opportunities where policy instruments can be leveraged to improve the enabling environment for green and circular economy businesses.

Building upon the knowledge and tools generated in the first phase of SwitchMed, SCP/RAC will examine 23 Mediterranean countries to document the policy, institutional and regulatory conditions in which these businesses are operating.

The assessment will be carried out between June and September 2020. The results of the assessment will be used to formulate recommendations on a set of regional policy measures that are effective, feasible and adapted to the diverse socioeconomic conditions in the region.

The Regional Activity Centre for Sustainable Consumption and Production (SCP/RAC) is a centre for international cooperation with Mediterranean countries on development and innovation in the production sector and civil society, based on more sustainable consumption and production models. The Centre develops its activity under the Mediterranean Action Plan (MAP)for the protection and development of the Mediterranean basin, an organisation belonging to the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).
