Training workshops on Violence Against Women and Girls were held in Jordan and Lebanon last summer in the framework of the project “Combating Violence against Women in the Southern Mediterranean Region”, funded by the European Union.

In Lebanon, the workshop was organised by EuroMed Feminist Initiative and its members in Lebanon, Association Najdeh and the Lebanese Democratic Women’s Gathering (RDFL). Twenty-three activists from all Lebanese regions participated, including three men.

Arab Women Organization (AWO) held two training workshops in Irbid and Mafraq governorates in Jordan with representatives from local CBOs and CSOs.

The trainings aimed at strengthening the capacities of the activists on Istanbul Convention, Civil Society Declaration 2017, 4th UfM Ministerial Declaration, CEDAW, and UNSCR 1325. The objectives were also to enhance the participants’ knowledge and skills on violence against women and girls, and legal discrimination in the Personal Status Law and Penal Law, as well as to underline the positive impact of the adoption, enforcement and implementation of a comprehensive law, that criminalizes and addresses all forms of violence against women and girls.

In January 2019, EuroMed Feminist Initiative (EFI), with a consortium of member women’s rights organizations in Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Palestine and Tunisia launched a three-year regional project “Combating Violence against Women in the Southern Mediterranean Region”, funded by the EU. The overall objective is to contribute to the elimination of all forms of Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) in the Southern Neighborhood States, by promoting a social environment that does not tolerate VAWG, and where decision makers address it as a political priority.
