The EU and Jordan have taken stock of progress in the implementation of the EU-Jordan Association Agreement and of the EU-Jordan partnership priorities and compact agreed in December 2016. The Association Council meeting on 10 July reviewed the state of EU-Jordan bilateral relations.

“Today we looked at the evolution of our excellent cooperation, which is based on a very like-minded approach and common priorities. The agreement reached this morning on the Memorandum of Understanding for the macro-financial assistance, which will be available in the coming weeks, is one of the testimonies of the strong support the EU gives to Jordan,” said EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini.

The EU and Jordan reached an agreement at technical level on a memorandum of understanding on the EU’s second programme of macro-financial assistance to Jordan. Following this important step, the entry into force of the memorandum will enable a first disbursement of €100 million.

The Association Council also provided an opportunity to identify areas where the EU and Jordan could enhance cooperation. They welcomed the forthcoming participation of Jordan in the Partnership on Research and Innovation in the Mediterranean Area, which is expected to mobilise joint research on two challenges relevant to Jordan: efficient and sustainable food production and water provision.
