EU solidarity response to Covid-19 in Algeria: an example of international cooperation

The project “European Solidarity Response to Covid-19 in Algeria”, implemented by the Ministry of Health, Population and Hospital Reform and funded by the European Union, was at the centre of an international conference in Algiers on 25 February. During this event, the Algerian strategy and its experience in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic since its inception was presented.

EU Ambassador John O’Rourke stressed that in agreement with the Algerian authorities, the EU “reallocated €75 million to support the government in its response to COVID-19 through 3 programs, two of which will support socio-economic recovery in the areas of blue economy and youth employability in the tourism sector”, as well as the programme EU solidarity response to Covid-19 in Algeria”. The latter is divided into three parts, namely the acquisition of equipment, the training of health workers and the public awareness of social distancing and vaccination.
