EU-UN Spotlight initiative against human trafficking

Over 70% of human trafficking victims are women & girls. Nadia Murad, survivor and UNODC – United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime Goodwill Ambassador, and EU Anti-Trafficking Coordinator, Myria Vassilliadou, call for joint action on the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons.  

Mrs. Vassilliadou says: ‘I am very proud that the European commission has launched this EU-UN Spotlight initiative whereby we’re trying to see the best ways to assist women and girls including in relation to violence against women and girls and predominantly trafficking of human beings especially for sexual exploitation.’

Mrs Murad says: ‘​(…) In my opinion many things need to happen for that to stop, not only in war areas but around the world. We need to fight for women’s rights and make sure that women are considered equal to men.’​
