EUBAM Libya successfully concluded a three-day training programme on countering the trafficking of small arms and light weapons (SALW) for 12 Libyan Customs Authority officers. The programme, held from December 4th to 6th, provided participants with valuable technical knowledge and skills to tackle SALW-related issues at Libyan borders. The training covered a comprehensive range of topics, including:

  • SALW Basics: Definitions, statistics, legal frameworks, and the global landscape of supply and demand.
  •  SALW and Human Rights: Exploring the connections between SALW trafficking and international human rights law, international humanitarian law, and child protection.
  • Transnational Response: International police cooperation, coordination, and joint investigation teams in tackling weapons trafficking.
  •  Practical Exercises: Applying acquired knowledge through practical scenarios and simulations.

The training programme not only enhanced the technical capabilities of Libyan Customs officers but also fostered a closer collaboration between EUBAM Libya and the Libyan Customs Authority. This ongoing partnership is crucial in effectively combating SALW trafficking and promoting regional security and stability.
