Tunisia EUPOL COPPS Head of Mission Karin Limdal meets with the Palestinian Chief of Police

EUPOL COPPS Head of Mission (HoM), Karin Limdal, met with the Palestinian Chief of Police (CoP), Major General Allam Al-Saqqa, in Ramallah on 24 July. Major General Al-Saqqa briefed the HoM on the ongoing challenges faced by the Palestinian Civil Police. Despite the very difficult financial situation of the Palestinian Authority, he highlighted the dedication and resilience of the police force in continuing to serve the Palestinian public to the best of their ability. Mrs. Limdal outlined the Mission’s focus on supporting the PCP primarily in the areas of criminal investigation, community policing, correction- and rehabilitation, accountability and training architecture. In addition, Mrs. Limdal expressed her commitment to the CoP on approaching the international donor community to fund building a new correction and rehabilitation centre in Bethlehem that will meet internationally recognised standards pertaining to respecting the human rights of inmates as well as to look into enhancing the capacities of the PCP Criminal Forensic Laboratory – a crucial entity for enhancing the criminal investigation capacity of the PCP.
