EUPOL COPPS Head of Mission (HoM), Karin Limdal, met with the Palestinian Chief of Police (CoP), Major General Allam Al-Saqqa, in Ramallah on 19 August to reaffirm the Mission’s ongoing support to the Palestinian Civil Police (PCP). Major General Al-Saqqa expressed his commitment to strengthening the PCP’s capabilities and acknowledged the jointly agreed Mission support for 14 proposed projects across various areas of policing. He noted that, despite the challenging financial situation facing the Palestinian Authority, PCP officers continue to work tirelessly to ensure the safety and security of the Palestinian people, with their efforts already delivering tangible results.
Mrs. Limdal highlighted the Mission’s commitment to support to a re-structured Criminal Investigation Department and a PCP owned Criminal Investigation certification programme. In this context, the HoM confirmed that “Train-the-Trainer” sessions on criminal investigation will take place in September, with the support of external experts from Slovenia, Sweden, and Italy. The two sides also discussed the need to support to the national forensic laboratory, enhance the basic training for PCP officers in the Palestine College for Police Sciences, including the curriculum, and to re-vitalise the female police network. The network’s General Assembly is scheduled for October and will be attended by the CoP and the HoM.
