Effective interviewing is a key skill for police officers when responding to sensitive cases, especially those involving vulnerable individuals to protect their rights and to ensure accurate information.   To conduct structured, effective, and ethical interviews, EUPOL COPPS Family and Juvenile Protection Advisers held two sessions for nearly 20 policemen and policewomen this week in Ramallah and Bethlehem. During the training sessions, the two Swedish advisers introduced the PEACE Model (which stands for Planning & Preparation, Engage & Explain, Account, Closure, Evaluate), , a globally recognised best-practice framework designed to guide ethical, thorough, and victim-centered interviews. The Model will enable the attendees in both districts to identify and address risks, to establish trust with the victims, to ensure that both victims and suspects are treated with respect and dignity, thus supporting fair and just investigations. All the attendees said that effective interviewing is essential not just for gathering facts, but for protecting individuals, upholding justice, and maintaining the integrity and reputation of the police force.
