TunisiaEuro-Mediterranean literary contest “A Sea of Words” 2020: Over 130 youths from 30 countries participated
The Euro-Mediterranean literary contest “A Sea of Words”, organised by the European Institute of the Mediterranean (IEMed) and the Anna Lindh Foundation, has encouraged 138 youths to write about the environmental changes that are transforming the lives of the people and societies in which they live. They are from countries as diverse as Egypt, Algeria, Libya, Spain, Morocco, Turkey, Syria, Romania, …
The motto of the thirteenth edition is “Young People Faced with Climate Change in the Mediterranean and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development”. Participation was highest among women, who wrote 74 stories, while men wrote 64.
As always, the contest is aimed at youths aged between 18 and 30 from the 43 countries in the Union for the Mediterranean (28 from the EU and 15 from the southern and eastern Mediterranean) with the objective of giving them a platform to express their views on issues affecting the whole region.
The authors of the 10 best texts – selected by an international jury – will be invited to Barcelona in September to attend the awards ceremony and participate in different cultural activities in the city. Moreover, the 10 winning stories will be published in an anthology.
