All the MED countries are confronted with a rapid evolution of the way users are considering and “consuming” statistics, in particular with the development of the social media. The statistics offices have to radically adjust their communication and dissemination practices to a rapidly changing environment.

These adjustments require resources and technical capacities which are rare assets in statistical offices. This is why MEDSTAT IV initiated a regional exercise with the aim of assisting the development of country experiences. Five countries (Egypt, Israel, Morocco, Palestine and Tunisia) have already set-up national teams composed with several capacities that need to be pooled in order to design data visualisation for statistics.

MEDSTAT IV will accompany them in their project and will provide technical assistance. The various experiences will be shared and discussed at the occasion of a regional workshop that will take place early 2019.

The MEDSTAT IV project provides expertise and technical support to promote the harmonisation of statistics in line with EU and international standards in 6 domains: business register and business, trade and balance of payments, energy, labour market, migration and transport. It follows on the previous phase implemented over the period 2010-2013.
