Mahmoud Esmat Ahmed is the winner of the EU Delegation to Egypt’s 8th annual photo contest. His photo ‘The Golden River’ was chosen among more than 150 entries to this year’s competition, around the theme ‘Egypt is the gift of the Nile’

Second place goes to Ramy Moussa Heikal for his photo ‘Smile of the Nile’, and third prize to Farid Abdin for his photo ‘Reflection’.

EU Ambassador James Moran handed the winners their prizes, which included the latest photography tools and equipment, at an award ceremony and exhibition in Cairo last night.

The jury chose the best 30 photographs: the first three to be awarded prizes; first 12 photos to be featured in the Delegation’s 2016 desk calendar, and the first 30 photos which were included in the exhibition.

This was the eighth consecutive edition of the competition, which started in 2008, with a total of 1,200 contestants so far. (EU Neighbourhood Info)
