Different pilot actions that contribute to increasing nature in cities are taking place in the cities of Jerash, Bethlehem, and Saida through HERA project. In the case of Bethlehem, HERA Project has contributed to the increment in the road medians’ biodiversity and permeable surfaces, together with an increase of the trees on the sidewalks.
This will bring more shadows in the city and create more appealing spaces, thus facilitating and encouraging pedestrian mobility. In Saida, a similar pilot has focused on the increase of already existing planted road medians, recognizing their crucial role in linking various green spaces across the city.
In Jerash, the pilot has consisted of the rehabilitation of a section of the municipal park, enhancing and providing more natural shadow to the children’s playground, increasing the number and biodiversity of trees and shrubs, and providing natural shadow to a multi-purpose sheltered space in the park. This will contribute to mitigating climate change by providing climate shelters and making more biodiverse, beautiful, and climate-resilient Mediterranean cities.
