The EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy/Vice-President of the European Commission (HR/VP), Kaja Kallas, will travel to Rome, Italy, on 9-10 January, to participate in the Quint meeting on Syria. The meeting, hosted by the Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani, will take place in the evening, at Villa Madama, where the HR/VP will join her counterparts from France, Germany, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
The meeting will focus on coordinating efforts to assist Syria in facing the huge challenges of the Syrian provisional government and Syrian society, in the post Assad transition. The EU will reaffirm the importance of an effective and efficient inclusiveness; for protection of minorities; rule of law; accountability; justice; and territorial integrity of Syria, as essential condition for reconciliation, and for sustained peace in the country. EU remains ready to support a Syrian-led and Syrian-owned process, with the support of the United Nations.
The HR/VP will also meet the Prime Minister of Italy, Ms. Giorgia Meloni, and the Minister of Defence, Mr. Guido Crosetto.
