Federica Mogherini, High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy of the European Union/Vice President of the European Commission, met today in Brussels with the Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), Mr Pierre Krähenbühl.
They exchanged views on the current situation in the Middle East and challenges ahead in 2019.
High Representative Mogherini reaffirmed the EU’s continued political and financial support to UNRWA. She underlined UNRWA’s role for stability and security in the region and the importance of the work of the Agency for the viability of the two-state solution for the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
They also discussed the need for continuous reforms of UNRWA to ensure sustainability of the services to the benefit of Palestine refugees, in particular in Gaza.
