Three sold-out evenings, a new iconic venue, and unique musical encounters between Moroccan and European artists: the 27th edition of Jazz in Rabat concluded successfully, confirming the festival’s position as a key venue for intercultural dialogue through music. After several editions at the Chellah, the festival reinvented itself this year by taking over the Hassan II Park amphitheater. “Jazz in Rabat is much more than a musical event. It is a space for creation and dialogue, where artists and audiences meet, exchange, and mutually enrich each other. This edition, with its new setting and unique residencies, illustrates the strength of the partnership between Morocco and the European Union,” said Dimiter Tzantchev, Ambassador of the European Union to Morocco.
From September 25th to 27th, the program featured original creations, marked by a strong female presence: the opening act featured the Tania Giannouli Trio and Moroccan percussionist Abdelfettah Houssaini, followed by the Céline Bonacina Quartet with Hamza Bennani Smires and Driss Nigra; a second vibrant evening where Alba Careta Group shared the stage with Jazz’in Trio, before Sara Bolyki & Petra Várallyay joined forces with the Tchubi Sextet; and a closing performance featuring the Belgian trio A.M.E. and Mehdi Qamoum, followed by the fusion of Lina Nyberg and her quartet with BabL’bluz.
Beyond the stage, Jazz à Rabat took over the city with a street performance and participatory workshops: an introduction to percussion in Rabat with Stéphane Galland and a collective creation workshop in Casablanca featuring Tchubi, Axel Camil, and Adil Hanin. An initiative of the European Union in Morocco, Jazz in Rabat is organized in partnership with the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication and the Wilaya of Rabat-Salé-Kénitra.
