As part of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence (November 25 – December 10), the official launch ceremony for the first national campaign, “Orange the Cinema,” took place on Monday, November 24, 2025, at 5:00 p.m. at the Moroccan Cinematheque – Moroccan Cinema Center (CCM).
The launch of this first official campaign was initiated by Mr. Mohamed Réda Benjelloun, Director of the CCM, Mr. Daniele Dotto, Deputy Head of Delegation of the European Union to Morocco, Ms. Myriem Ouchen Noussairi, Representative of the UN Women office in Morocco, Ms. Narjis Nejjar, Director of the Moroccan Cinematheque, and Ms. Fadoua Maroub, President of the Association of Mediterranean Encounters on Cinema and Human Rights (ARMCDH).
The “Orange the Cinema” campaign is a joint initiative of the ARMCDH (Moroccan Association for the Defense of Human Rights), UN Women, and the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication, implemented with a broad coalition of partners including the Moroccan Cinema Center, the Moroccan Cinematheque, the European Union, the Embassy of Spain, the Embassy of Belgium, the French Institute, the Government of Catalonia, as well as the Higher Institute of Audiovisual Professions (ISMAC), the Higher Institute of Dramatic Arts and Cultural Animation (ISADAC), the Higher School of Visual Arts (ESAV), the Master’s program in Documentary Film at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities – Abdelmalek Saadi University of Tetouan, and the Tamayouz Foundation.
The launch ceremony officially kicked off the campaign with the illumination of the Moroccan Cinematheque’s façade in orange, a symbol of the global “Orange the World” campaign. This illumination will mark the start of a nationwide mobilization of cinemas across the kingdom, which will be called upon to light up in orange and screen an awareness message before each showing throughout the 16 days of activism.
The “Orange the Cinema” campaign, which comes at a crucial time following the adoption of Law 18.32 relating to the film industry and the reorganization of the CCM (Moroccan Cinema Council), aims to break the taboo surrounding the issue and thus open a responsible debate and encourage the implementation of concrete measures to strengthen prevention, improve protection mechanisms, and promote a respectful and egalitarian professional environment.
