TunisiaLibya: EU-UNDP project “Model Police Station” opens in Tripoli
Inaugurated in Hay Al Andalus, Tripoli, the Model Police Station is to set new standards in policing in Libya.
The model police station project aims at strengthening the capacity of Libyan security services, and to integrate good practices in community-oriented, citizen focused policing and police organization management under the jurisdiction of the Libyan government.
“Rule of law and rebuilding people’s trust in state security institutions will be essential elements in rebuilding Libya, and the Libyan unity government put these aspects high on their agenda. The European Union will certainly be ready to provide strong support to the Libyan government’s security sector reform agenda,” said EU Ambassador to Libya José Sabadell.
The model police station is part of the EU’s “Strengthening Local Capacities for Resilience and Recovery (SLCRR)” project, implemented by UNDP in partnership with the Ministry of Local Government and selected municipalities.
The activities are closely coordinated with the Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Justice, as well as the Joint Technical Working Group for Rule of Law and Security Sector, including EUBAM and UNSMIL.
