As part of the Mediterranean Joint Initiative for Climate Adaptation and Risk Prevention (MedJICARP), Work Package 2 (WP2) on Communication and Dissemination has successfully delivered a series of outreach and awareness-raising activities in Egypt between July 2025 and January 2026. These activities were coordinated by the National Institute of Oceanography and Fisheries (NIOF) and aimed to enhance visibility of the project, engage key stakeholders, and promote dialogue on climate change impacts along the Egyptian Mediterranean coast.
In July 2025, MedJICARP gained national media exposure through an interview with the project’s Principal Investigator broadcast on Alexandria TV Channel Five. The interview addressed climate change and its impacts on Egypt’s Mediterranean coastline, with a particular focus on Alexandria, while also presenting the project’s objectives and expected outcomes to a wide public audience.
Further dissemination efforts included an introductory seminar held on 19 August 2025 at the General Office of Matrouh Governorate. The event brought together political leaders, civil society representatives, and local government staff to introduce the MedJICARP project and discuss its relevance to coastal adaptation and risk prevention. A key outcome of the seminar was the identification of a suitable beach location in Marsa Matrouh for the installation of a tide gauge under WP3. The device was subsequently installed by NIOF in September 2025, reinforcing the link between communication activities and technical implementation.
WP2 activities concluded in 2025 with a major workshop organized on 14 December at the NIOF Alexandria Branch, entitled “Mediterranean Joint Initiative for Climate Adaptation and Risk Prevention: Objectives, Activities and Expected Results.” The workshop provided a comprehensive overview of the project structure, its five work packages, and the anticipated scientific and societal impacts. The event attracted strong interest, with 101 participants registered and 72 attending in person, primarily researchers from NIOF alongside participants from universities and marine science–related institutions.
