On the occasion of International Women’s Day held this year under the theme “Invest in women; accelerate progress”, on 7 March the European Union in Morocco, the French and Belgian Embassies and the Council of Europe held a meeting on gender equality in the arts (cinema, theatre, etc.) in Rabat among Ambassadors and representatives of EU Member States in Morocco, the Head of the Council of Europe Office in Morocco and Moroccan professionals from the world of art and culture.
This exchange, embarked upon in the spirit of “Team Europe” and held in the presence of Ms Patricia Llombart Cussac, European Union Ambassador to Morocco, allowed the role of art and culture as essential components in the construction of new paradigms and narratives to be stressed along with their potential for revealing persistent instances of gender inequality and thus leading to progress in this area.
The various participants were able to discuss the contribution of the arts in all their forms to the raising of awareness of the need to promote equal rights and the importance of strengthening imaginative and creative capabilities in order to combat inequality.
