EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini has underlined the importance of joining forces and coordinating efforts in the fight against Daesh, in a phone conversation today with Russian foreign minister Sergei Lavrov on the downing of a Russian fighter plane in Syria.
Mogherini conveyed her condolences for the Russian airman killed.
Mogherini and Lavrov agreed on the need to safeguard the diplomatic track for the Syrian crisis opened in Vienna, and to proceed with the agreed timeline decided at the last meeting of the International Syria Support Group, that would constitute the most effective basis for effectively defeating Daesh on the ground.
They will meet next week in Belgrade, in the margins of the OSCE ministerial council meeting. (EU Neighbourhood Info)
