The EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Federica Mogherini, traveled to Algiers on 8 and 9 April to follow up on the EU-Algeria Association Council which took place on 13 March in Brussels.
The visit, which came at the invitation of the Algerian Foreign Affairs Minister, Ramtane Lamamra, provided an opportunity to review the main topics that constitute the Partnership Priorities in EU-Algeria bilateral relations, as adopted on 13 March latest.
The visit was also an opportunity to explore ways to further strengthen dialogue and cooperation on the current regional challenges facing both Europe and Algeria, particularly in Libya, the Sahel, Syria, prevention and fight against terrorism and radicalisation, or issues related to migration and mobility.
During her visit, the High Representative met with a number of interlocutors, including Algerian Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal, Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ramtane Lamamra and the Minister for Maghreb, African Union and the Arab League Affairs, Abdelkader Messahel.
She also met with representatives of civil society and gave a speech on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the Erasmus programme at Algiers III University.
