TunisiaMorocco : EU supports local campaign against female child marriage
Ms. Amina Byouz, President of the Anaouat Association and Ms. Irène Mingasson, Head of Unit of EU’s “Regional Programmes Neighbourhood South” met last week in the premises of the EU Delegation to Morocco in Rabat to discuss the results of the Anaouat campaign against female child marriage in the Chichaoua province and to review the issues and challenges at a regional level. Anaouat is one of the 36 associations actively involved in the EU-funded CSO WINS project that supports civil society organizations to increase their impact on the gender equality policy agenda in the Euro-Mediterranean region.
Ms. Mingasson and Ms. Byouz discussed, among other themes, the role of sex education in schools, the social integration of single mothers and the recommendations issued at the Euro-Mediterranean Dialogue on Advocacy for Gender Equality in Casablanca which encouraged effective networking between the participating associations.
The CSO WINS project targets local associations in order to strengthen their ability to mobilise public opinion with the aim of asserting women’s rights and encourage them to monitor women-related policies in the political, professional and social sectors at a local, national and Euro-Mediterranean level. It is funded by the Neighbourhood Civil Society Facility in the framework of the European Neighbourhood Instrument, and implemented by the European Institute of the Mediterranean through the Euro-Mediterranean Women’s Foundation.
