The right to education is the theme of the latest all-night human rights cinema event organised in the Moroccan capital Rabat, by the Association des Rencontres Méditerranéennes du Cinéma et des Droits de l’Homme, with the support of the EU-funded NET-MED Youth programme. The ‘Nuit Blanche’ event takes place on 16 and 17 June.

Now into its sixth edition since 2012, the festival this year addresses the right to education as one of the fundamental principles of the International Declaration of Human Rights. Previous editions have tackled issues like migration and women’s rights.

The event begins on 16 June with an open-air screening, open to the public from 19:00 until dawn, showing fictions, documentaries, short films and feature films from six countries (Italy, Germany, Spain, Morocco, Egypt, Algeria).

The next day, Saturday 17 June at 22:00, the auditorium of the National Library will host an open debate on the issue of the right to education.

During the event, the exhibition ‘Tsawar m3aya’ developed with Cartooning for Peace and funded by the European Union, will also be presented.

NET-MED Youth aims to improve the access and effective participation of young people in mainstreaming their priorities into legislation and national planning in the Southern Mediterranean Partner countries. Specifically, it aims to build the capacities of youth organisations in the region and to enhance networking among them in order to reduce the fragmentation of efforts and harness the collective potential of young people in achieving democratic transition towards active citizenship, political participation and social inclusion.
