TunisiaPalestine: EU funds training on detecting forged documents, seals and stamps
The European Union Police and Rule of Law Mission (EUPOL COPPS) conducted a training session on fraud detection on 22-23 July in Ramallah, Palestine, for members of the Criminal Records Unit of the Palestinian Ministry of Justice. The Unit certifies the authenticity of documents and provides citizens with non-conviction documents. In an effort to improve methods of detection of possible counterfeits and other false and fraudulent alterations of documents, seals and stamps, the Unit has expressed a need to strengthen its capacity in this area.
During the training sessions, a comprehensive review of the different techniques to detect fraudulent undertakings was presented. The two trainers from the Forensic Science Laboratory also gave practical examples of fraudulent seals, stamps, signatures and banknotes. In January 2019, an initial two-day training on fraud detection was organised by the Mission.
EUPOL COPPS is the European Union Co-ordinating Office for Palestinian Police Support. The aim of the Mission is to contribute to the establishment of sustainable and effective policing arrangements and to advise Palestinian counterparts on criminal justice and rule of law related aspects under Palestinian ownership.
