TunisiaPalestine: EU helps civil police acquire new skills to better fight against cybercrime
The Palestinian Civil Police (PCP) is keen on evolving to keep pace with the rapidly changing technology in order to detect and prevent crime. In order to support their internal Information and Communication Technology (ICT) support and development of their information management tools, three PCP officers spent five days in Estonia this month to acquire the needed skills to improve centralized configuration management of the ICT systems of the police.
Utilizing the tools and techniques, PCP would be able to deploy new updates to information systems faster and with less resources. The Estonian experts showed their Palestinian counterparts how to apply the needed workflow to their existing systems management and software development.
The European Union Police and Rule of Law Mission (EUPOL COPPS), which funded and supported the visit to Estonia, has been working with ICT Administration of the PCP since 2007 and contributed a considerable role in modernising the department and building a computerized network which would eventually boost the operational and administrative capabilities of the PCP.
EUPOL COPPS is the European Union Co-ordinating Office for Palestinian Police Support. The aim of the Mission is to contribute to the establishment of sustainable and effective policing arrangements and to advise Palestinian counterparts on criminal justice and rule of law related aspects under Palestinian ownership.
