European Union Representative Sven Kühn von Burgsdorff met yesterday with the Minister of Jerusalem Affairs Fadi Hidmi and discussed the latest developments in East Jerusalem, including settlements’ expansion, demolitions of homes, and threats of eviction which are all illegal under international law.
The two parties also discussed the upcoming Palestinian elections where the EU Representative reiterated the EU’s strong support for the holding of elections across all of the Palestinian territory, including in East Jerusalem. Inclusive, accountable and functioning democratic Palestinian institutions, based on respect for the rule of law and human rights, are vital for the two-state solution.
