We congratulate Mohamed Mustafa on his appointment as the new Prime Minister of the Palestinian Authority, at this critical moment of great suffering for the Palestinian people.
More than ever, the Palestinian people need well-governed institutions that deliver much-needed services in these trying times. We look forward to continuing our cooperation with the new government, including on addressing the tragic situation in Gaza, and working on key reforms towards stronger democratic institutions and governance, for the benefit of the Palestinian people in the West Bank and in Gaza.
The Palestinian Authority has been and remains an important partner of the EU, also for the future of Gaza. The EU will continue to be a major donor to the Palestinian Authority and to the Palestinian people, with the aim of promoting Palestinian state building in line with the goal of a negotiated two-state solution.
We also thank former Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh for his tenure and work to advance Palestinian partnership with the EU.
