In the framework of the “EU-Algeria cooperation week”, the 6th Dialogue on politics, security and human rights, the 8th under-committee on Justice and Domestic Affairs as well as the 4th informal dialogue on Migration and Mobility took place last week in Brussels.

Covering three of the five partnership priorities adopted in March 2017, these meetings allowed the identification of guidelines for reflection and action to intensify the relations in fields such as politics, security, justice and migration.

Topics such as governance and the rule of law, security issues, human rights, the fight against organized crime, judicial cooperation in civil and criminal matters, mobility facilitation between the EU and Algeria, and management of migration flows were the focus of discussion. Both parties have shared their analyses, assessed the current bilateral cooperation and identified follow-up actions on these key common areas.

Future possible actions include the organisation of a workshop on the methods to fight cybercrime and another one on the visa policy to enter the Schengen area.

Relations between the EU and Algeria are governed by the Association Agreement, which entered into force in 2005. In addition to the Association Council and the Association committee, whose latest edition took place in December, thematic meetings involving sectorial experts are regularly organised in order to reinforce the cooperation and to reconcile the different points of view.
