TunisiaSOLE in Egypt advances in its energy refurbishment at Alexandria university
SOLE project has finished the installation of solar panels on the rooftops of the buildings as part of its plan to renovate one of the six buildings at the Faculty of Engineering, Alexandria University, to serve as the country’s flagship of efficient public buildings and a stepping stone towards energy rehabilitation in Egypt for public spaces.
The Alexandria Chamber of Commerce in cooperation with the Confederation of Egyptian European Business Associations (CEEBA), SOLE’s Egyptian partners, are implementing the pilot project.
The panels’ predicted peak capacity is 200-kilo Watt-hour (this is the expected total output of the pv plants that can be used both internally and placed in national grid) across two buildings and the estimated electrical energy contribution to the internal system of the Alexandria Faculty of Engineering is around 360,000 kWh per year.
The panels are ready to go, all they need is a final inspection by the Alexandria Distribution Company, the city’s public authority in charge of power distribution, which will take place in the coming weeks.
Most public buildings in the Mediterranean area are energy inefficient as lack of interventions over time have led to increasing annual energy consumption and CO2 emissions. SOLE “High Energy Efficiency for the Public Stock Buildings in Mediterranean”, cofinanced by Programme ENI CBC MED, aims to foster cost-effective and innovative energy rehabilitations of public buildings.
