After months of intensive negotiations following the May elections observed by an EU election observation mission, it is very welcome news that Prime Minister-designate Hariri in close consultation with President Aoun was able to reach a consensus among all parties on the formation of a government. This is a positive step that is of crucial importance for Lebanon’s stability. (…)
The European Union continues to support Lebanon and most recently pledged its strong political and financial support at the three international conferences for Lebanon held in 2018 in Rome, Paris and Brussels. We will continue to work closely with the new government and ensure close coordination to implement the mutual commitments in the fundamental areas of security, economic recovery, and addressing the impact of the Syrian conflict.
