After a terrorist attack that targeted the Libyan High National Electoral Commission (HNEC) in Tripoli, the European Union expresses its condolences to the families of the victims and wishes a prompt recovery to those injured.
The HNEC plays an important role in the development of legitimate institutions in Libya. The attack, targeting directly its work, must be promptly investigated.
All Libyans deserve to live in peace and security. The European Union reiterates its firm support to the inclusive UN mediation process and efforts by the Special Representative Ghassan Salamé to forge a lasting solution to the crisis in Libya. The European Union expects all legitimate Libyan actors to work towards this goal, showing willingness to compromise and by putting the interests of the Libyan people first.
