The Syrian Women´s Rights Civil Society Conference followed up on the last EU conference “Supporting the Future of Syria and the Region” (Brussels V), that took place on 29-30 March 2021 and made emphasis on the role of civil society organisations, in particular with regards to economic development, sustainable livelihoods, humanitarian aid, justice and peace, and underlined the importance of “Syrian women’s full and meaningful participation at all stages of the political process at a minimum of 30 per cent representation in decision-making structures”, including women-led organisations.

The Syrian Women´s Rights Civil Society therefore provided a platform to Syrian women´s rights activists to present and discuss the Common Agenda for combating VAWG as a main barrier to Women’s Participation in Decision Making and Peace Building.

Building on the main outcomes of the consultative process, the conference created and fostered a sustainable dialogue among Syrian civil society and with stakeholders, on VAWG as major barrier for women´s participation at all stages of decision making during the political processes for Syria, favouring the recommendations of the Common Agenda.
