The Kick Off of the UfM/Sida funded project “WEFE Nexus for Sustainable Development in MENA: Proofing the WEFE Nexus concept in related job creation” will take place between 16-18 January in Amman, Jordan.

The project, implemented by INWRDAM (the Inter-Islamic Network on Water Resources Development and Management), has as a main goal the better management of water, energy and food security in the MENA region contributing to socio-economic and environmental sustainability. It will establish a WEFE Nexus Hub for the MENA region that will aggregate relevant data from member states to disseminate repeatable success stories and lessons learned on the application of WEFE Nexus approach. The Hub will also include a project development component, which will identify Nexus-related economic opportunities at regional level, which could lead to job creation, and economic empowerment of those sectors in society who struggle the most to be employed.

Also, within the scope of the project two pilot projects will be implemented in Jordan and Egypt. The pilots will increase the countries’ capacities in enhancing the use of non-conventional water resources for irrigation purposes and help proof the concept of the WEFE Nexus.
