Tunis, Friday 27 September 2024 – The “TANIT” project has kicked off today in Tunis, spearheaded by Leaders International and Museum Lab, and supported by the Tunisian Ministry for tourism and the European Union.

The TANIT project, which is co-financed by the European Union, is an initiative meant to further develop sustainable tourism in Tunisia by strengthening the capabilities of Civil Society Organisations (OSC in French) active in the sustainable tourism sector through an inclusive approach that highlights the country’s rich natural and cultural heritage.

During the launch event organised at the Ministry for tourism, the members of the project’s management committee discussed the selection criteria for the 35 beneficiary associations, stressing the role of the OSCs and of local communities in the execution of initiatives linked to sustainable tourism.

They also insisted on the importance of sector-wide cooperation needed between public and private stakeholders for this project’s success.

The TANIT project, carried out by Leaders International in partnership with Museum Lab, will effectively allow to stimulate economic development, especially in the interior regions of Tunisia, by promoting sustainable tourism practices that highlight the country’s natural and cultural heritage and that will thus help to diversify tourist destinations beyond coastal areas.

The Jendouba, Kef, Siliana, Béja, Zaghouan, Medenine, Gabès, and Tataouine Governorates will be at the heart of the project’s initiatives, with the goal of making their tourist potential more dynamic and attractive.
