The 7th meeting of the National Steering Committee of the EU-funded THAMM programme was held today to discuss the governance of professional migration and skills mobility.
According to the data of the National Statistics Institute and the National Bureau of Migration in 2021 on international migration, 40% of young Tunisians aged 15 to 29 aspire to emigrate, 80% of them in search of better job opportunities.
It is necessary to strengthen the access of Tunisian youth to training, employment and mobility opportunities legally. The EU and its member states, together with Tunisia, are committed to providing concrete prospects for skills development and mobility, while ensuring mutual benefits for both parties.
The THAMM programme, launched in 2020 under the auspices of the Ministry of employment and vocational training, aims to enhance training and employment opportunities by creating balanced and safe mobility plans that benefit all parties. It is funded by the European Union in the amount of 17.6 million euros and jointly financed by Germany and Italy.
