As at every previous event, the European Union in Morocco (EU) took part in the International Agricultural Exhibition in Morocco (SIAM – Salon International de l’Agriculture au Maroc) in Meknès. This participation forms part of the Morocco-EU partnership for agriculture and forestry, as well as the Morocco-EU Green Partnership signed in October 2022.
The European Union had a major presence, made up of representatives from the European Union Delegation, from the European Investment Bank (EIB) – the EU bank, and from the Erasmus+ office in Morocco. Many meetings and events took place throughout the week at the Exhibition stand, for the benefit of professionals, the general public, and young people in particular, on the subject of “another type of agriculture is possible”.
The SIAM is a prominent platform for recognising and promoting sustainable agriculture, a core element of the Morocco-EU Green Partnership, which aims to consolidate cooperation to protect the environment, preserve biodiversity, and fight climate change.
Marking the occasion, the European Union Ambassador to Morocco Mrs Patricia Llombart Cussac, observed: “Agriculture is a key area of the prosperity partnership shared by the Kingdom of Morocco and the European Union. Whether volume of trade, quality of product, job creation, or soil and water preservation, everything is encouraging us to work together in this field. This is the raison d’être for our involvement in SIAM 2023: to promote our partnership’s actions, opportunities and future plans to the Moroccan public and its actors.”
