The European Union in Morocco has taken actions to mark World Children’s Day, celebrated on 20 November each year, joining Unicef in its calls for inclusion and the promotion of equal opportunities for all children and protection from all forms of discrimination. This commitment is also at the heart of joint efforts by the Morocco-European Union partnership to “leave no one behind”.

The European Union in Morocco therefore responded to Unicef Morocco’s call with two main actions:

  • “Kids take over”, which saw Aya Oumous, a 12 year old student from Casablanca, invited to accompany Patricia Llomabart Cussac, in her role as European Union ambassador to Morocco for an afternoon, during which she spoke to ambassadors from EU member states and young people about the issues of climate change and environmental protection. This unprecedented action gave children a voice and an opportunity to express their opinions on subjects close to their heart.
  • “Go blue”, which saw the European Union headquarters in Morocco lit up in blue on 20 and 21 November. An important symbol of its commitment to children’s rights.
