The Head of EU Delegation in Tunisia Laura Baeza held a meeting with human rights activists on 20 May 2016. The meeting was an opportunity to exchange experiences on the challenges in the field of human rights and opportunities to further promote an atmosphere conducive to their defence in Tunisia.

The discussions focused on the need to work at all levels: advocacy, awareness, legislation and implementation of laws to improve the protection of human rights defenders. A particular emphasis was placed on the central role of new institutions, including the future Constitutional Court, to establish consistency between the 2014 Constitution and the Tunisian law.
