In the framework of the EU-Tunisia Association Council held last week in Brussels, EU Commissioner for Education, Culture, Youth and Sport Tibor Navracsics and Mr Khemais Jhinaoui, Tunisia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, signed the Agreement on the participation of Tunisian cultural and audiovisual operators in the EU cultural programme Creative Europe.

“I welcome the prospect of strengthening EU-Tunisia relations and cooperation through culture and people-to-people contacts. Tunisia is the first Southern ENP country to participate in Creative Europe and the signature of the Agreement is one of the concrete deliverables of the recently adopted EU strategy on international cultural relations,” said Commissioner Navracsics.

After its signature, the Agreement will have to be ratified by the Tunisian Parliament (ARP, Assemblée des Représentants du Peuple) before it can enter into force.

Creative Europe is the Union programme supporting cultural diversity and the competitiveness of the European cultural and creative sectors and foresees the participation of countries covered by the European Neighbourhood Policy (ENP). Tunisia’s participation is scheduled as of 2018 and will enable Tunisian cultural and audio-visual operators to participate fully in the Culture sub-programme and partially in the MEDIA sub-programme (participation limited to training, film festivals, film education and market access activities).
