“Your country is now emerging as a model of pluralism and tolerance in the region”, President of the European Parliament Martin Schulz said in the Assembly of People’s Representatives (ARP, the Tunisian Parliament) on Monday 8 February. Schulz is in Tunis on a three-day visit to the country.
The president’s visit – from 8 to 10 February – aims to pay tribute to Tunisia, which has been hit by terrorism and whose borders are coming under increasing pressure. Schulz visited the Bardo National Museum, and Sousse, the scene of a terror attack, in addition to holding talks with Tunisian Prime Minister Habib Essid and with the parliamentary representatives before whom he delivered his speech. “You can count on the constant mobilisation of the European Union and the active support of the European Parliament”, he promised the Tunisian parliamentarians.
