On 15 November, at the invitation of the Benedictine Sisters of the Mount of Olives and in the presence of representatives from Switzerland, France, and GIZ, the European Union Representative, Alexandre Stutzmann, inaugurated the Vacare Deo Garden in East Jerusalem.

“Vacare Deo” reflects the spirit of this historic and serene site: a sanctuary for contemplation, silence, and the rediscovery of beauty. Set among centuries-old olive trees, the garden brings together spiritual, cultural, ecological and social values. It preserves the natural heritage of the Mount of Olives while offering a welcoming space for visitors and pilgrims.

The project was supported through the EU-funded East Jerusalem Tourism Development Programme, implemented by GIZ, which promotes sustainable tourism, community engagement and cultural preservation. The inauguration of the Vacare Deo Garden represents a meaningful step in protecting heritage, fostering community ties and strengthening the cultural fabric of East Jerusalem.
