The WES-BCA project has organised an online kick-off meeting of the water activity in Lebanon, on August 05, 2025. This WES-BCA activity is to enrich knowledge and know-how of Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) for storm and rainwater management and environment/biodiversity enhancement, to review the best management practices for NBS and to learn from the experience achieved from designing NBS in one pilot case in Lebanon at the feasibility level. Emphasis will be placed on how NBS aligns with national strategies such as the National Water Sector Strategy (2024–2035) and the National biodiversity objectives.

By prioritizing NBS and Non-Conventional Water Resources (NCWR) within a climate adaptation framework, this activity contributes to improving urban water resilience, reducing pollutant loads in rivers and seas, and supporting ecosystem restoration in stormwater-affected areas. In parallel, the NBS are characterized by very low energy requirements and therefore could be important components of the WEFE Nexus approach. The project builds technical capacity, informs policy reform, and offers a practical model for other water-stressed countries in the Mediterranean to follow. The activity is prepared with the collaboration of the Ministry of Energy and Water of Lebanon.
