The Regional Media and Communication Team for the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) is a bespoke structure created in 2020 to enhance the projection of the EU in the region, by promoting narratives that foster a greater understanding of the EU and its role in the world and by engaging with regional audiences in Arabic language. The Team works in close co-ordination with the Directorate for Strategic Communication and Foresight (SG.STRAT) in the EEAS Headquarters and is part of the STRATCOM Task Force South tasked to contribute to effective and fact-based strategic communication, countering foreign information manipulation and interference and strengthening the integrity of the media environment in the MENA region.

WE LOOK FOR

A highly motivated and dynamic colleague to work to join the Regional Media and Communication team attached to the Political, Press and Information Section of the Delegation to Jordan.

Under the authority of the Head of Delegation, and in close co-ordination with the Directorate for Strategic Communication and Foresight (SG.STRAT) and the STRATCOM Task Force South the Regional Communication Officer will carry out press, information and communication activities, and contribute to promoting the visibility of the European Union in the MENA region, and thereby to pursuing the EU’s policies in all areas as well as to promoting and protecting the EU’s interests.

The Regional Communication Officer’s main responsibilities will be:

• Undertake media outreach activities in the MENA (Middle East and North Africa region;
• Respond in Arabic, on the record and on background, to Arabic-speaking media requests related to regional issues across the MENA region;
• Contribute to developing narratives based on the EU policies as well as designing communication campaigns to enhance the visibility and perception of the EU in the region. ;
• Manage and contribute to create audio / visual content for Arabic social media accounts on behalf of the EU (EUinArabic/EUbilAraby) and develop digital content;
• Manage a small budget, for communication and media related events and campaigns;
• Maintain Strategic engagement with the EU Delegations in the region: provide support on media outreach, ensure information flows between the EU Delegations and headquarters on strategic communications and overall coordination of media relations;
• Coordinate with relevant EU institutions and services working on the region, including EEAS’ StratCom Task Force South, EEAS’ MENA department and the Commission’s Spokesperson’s Office.

The Regional Communication Officer will liaise regularly with Headquarters, and in particular with the Directorate for Strategic Communication and Foresight (SG.STRAT) and the STRATCOM Task Force South, and provide input and advice, as appropriate, on policy issues, as well as briefing dossiers, speeches, statements, press releases and articles, as requested.
