Algeria’s national meteorological office has been working with EU support to streamline its organisation and work on an action plan for modernisation, as well as to develop an index for vulnerability to climate and weather risks, and a global alert and vigilance system. The achievements of the project will be presented at its closing event in Algiers on 21 February.
The 15-month project was in line with the Ministry of Public Works and Transport’s new strategy for the development of institutional and regulatory reforms and the improvement of the quality of services.
An efficient and effective meteorological service is essential to the proper functioning of the transport system and the prevention of accidents, providing crucial information on weather conditions, especially for maritime and air travel. With a vital role in safety, it has to be organised efficiently and professionally, using modern equipment and advanced technologies.
